Slippers

"A new study shows that people take shorter strides while walking in rubber slippers to keep them from flying off, which could lead to lower leg and feet problems."

"One of its recommendations — that slippers be thrown out every three to four months —also runs counter to a Hawai'i culture accustomed to people wearing the same pair for years and even patching them with duct tape."

I read the online version of The Honolulu Advertiser once in awhile and this topic was addressed. In the article it noted that a study is being done by a graduate student in Alabama to determine if slippers, thongs or flip flops can really cause leg and foot problems. I personally don't buy it. I wore slippers every single day for 4 years while living there. When I was a dental assistant I had to wear shoes and that is when I had foot problems. I think my feet are happier either in slippers or barefoot.

And about taking shorter strides in slippers? Maybe if you don't wear them a lot and are not expert in the art of slipper wearing you might walk a little different.

I absolutley love slippers and I would wear them all year round if my toes wouldn't get frostbite!

Take the survey. I want to know what you all think about slippers!

I cannot wear flat "sandals"... That's what I call them. To each her own. They hurt my feet so bad. I wore them all the time when I was pregnant with my 3rd, and I think this is why my bunion starting getting bigger, and hurting more. I have to have a heel, or wedge. It somehow takes pressure away from where it hurts. Doesn't sound like it would, but it does. Plus, I have ugly feet, and I need to hide them anyway I can!!

The main draw for me with flip-flops is that you can find a cute pair at Nordstrom Rack--or at the drugstore--and be just as happy with the cost even if you end up wearing them only a couple of times. Flip-flops are are 'Whim" shoes to me and should never be taken seriously. :)

I love the flip-flops -- but since foot surgeries, they aren't as easy for me to wear as they used to be. But I'm thinking by next summer I"ll be back in 'em.

Well, I did a silly thing with my slippers. I packed them! So now I have to wait until we get to our new house. Dang it anyway.
I don't wear them as much as I used to though that's for sure because my feet aren't the prettiest so I wear a Merrill sandle that covers my toes a bit.

WOW! I am super suprised with these comments! So are you all telling me that if you lived in Hawaii, the slipper capital, you would not wear slippers/sandals/flipflops?

And Susan/Suz/Susie.....slippers shouldn't be taken seriously? Do we need to have a chat?

You packed your slippers Lou Lou? Not good.Good news though, you can go to Walmart and get a cheap pair.

My Mother turned me on to these lovelies a couple of years ago. At first I questioned why anyone would purposely put something between their toes, but now? I buy a pair everywhere I go, and my latest fav is from Coldwater Creek and they have a bunch of multicolor beads hanging from them. Fabulous! But it sounds like I better enjoy them now, because they will cause me to have surgery & foot problems later. So raise a glass to the flip-flop!

I LOVE flip flops! (My husband calls them slippers, and he grew up in Hawaii... guess that is what they are called there?)
I have so many different pairs, and would wear them every day if the weather cooperated. I don't even have to try and hold them on.. I think if you have ones that fit right (aren't too loose) then you shouldn't have that problem. =)
(btw... I found your blog via the pioneer woman's) =)

*gasp*
That last girl found you through PW?! That basically means you and PW are almost bff's!

Funny enough, I found PW through YOU!

About the flip-flops. I have to confess---I have not-pretty feet. They are rarely allowed to be exposed (by flip-flops).

I promise that when I get pretty feet, I will take your 'slippers' more seriously.

I LOVE THEM. Although I really love that you call them slippers. Is that an American thing? I don't think I heard that even while we lived there. Anyway, could wear them my entire life....if I didn't live in Edmonton where you feel like building an igloo in May.

We call them Flip Flops here in Florida and wear one form or another as often as possible. It doesn't get consistently cold down here until January, so we wear them ALOT. I like the Sketchers brand the best. It's like walking on air!
