2nd Annual Gopher Hunt

22 rifle.....check
Scissors.....check
Ammo......check
Baggie..........check
Hook....check
Matching t-shirts.....double check
Perfect weather......triple check

The gopher hunt is a big deal and something you need to take very seriously. You gotta be prepared for the unexpected and that is just what we were. Prepared. Just look at that list! We maybe should have each had our own scissors and hook, but other than that we were like boy scouts. But what we didn't expect were those gophers to hover in their holes. They just were not venturing out and about this season. I mean, we were killing them because, well, you can see the blood, but they would slither into their holes and that was that. No gopher tail, no score.

Just gettin' ready.

Have you guys seen Lou-Lou's sweet pink gun yet? Christmas gift from her husband, which was on the top of her "wish list".

Dixie is carrying a dead gopher. You gotta do what you gotta do. Lou-Lou had the scissors so we had to carry the gopher to the quad until we could get a hold of the scissors. I admit, it's kinda gross.

Yah, this is kinda gross too.

Here we are, the Gopher Girls! Lou-Lou, Dixie, and I after the official count. Only 29 tails this year which does not tell the complete story what so ever. We shot a lot of gophers, but getting their tales is another thing. We were told that if we are going to use 22 rifles then we need to use Yellow Jackets. These bullets have more of a punch and bang so that when you shoot you kill.

We came in 7th place........out of 7 teams. But sometimes losers can be winners which is what happened in our case. How can the sponsors deny this faithful, fun, and fabluous team a prize for our efforts? We got a free lunch at Subway that we really preferred anyways. The other prizes would have been hard to split 3 ways.
The top tails collected yesterday was 147 and we collected 29. But did thay have as much fun as we did? Don't think so.

We thought we would act like teenagers after lunch and just take a bunch of silly pictures. "Hurry up Lou-Lou, get in the picture and jump".

Just a little documentation on the picnic table.

If you were maybe wanting to plan your summer vacation around the gopher hunt it's really easy. Go to K&D Implements, sign up your group, give em' twenty bucks, and you are off to the races. Easy breezy. Oh wait, that might not work. The border guys (Hi Dixie) won't let you bring your guns over the border. Never mind.

If you want to read about last years hunt you can read all about it here.

Just say you got seventh and keep it at that. Ha. I'm sure next year will be even more fun with a win or not.

Also, it's fun to tell my friends that my Mom shoots gophers and enters into contests because she's so into it. Way to go team. Next year I think those shirts need to be embroidered with your names on it or something. HA!

Carly is helping me read blogs today. Good job Gopher Girls. It was a beautiful day. Good thing the fog didn't stay long. Maybe you should ask for some yellow jackets for your birthday.
